A sterling silver luncheon set marked by Wm. Wilson McGrew, Cincinnati. McGrew was a third generation silversmith, his grandfather, Alexander McGrew, having worked in that craft there as early as 1805. Wm. Wilson McGrew worked as a silversmith and jeweler from 1859.

This nearly complete service for twelve contains:

10 teaspoons
12 forks
12 salad forks
12 soup spoons
12 Table spoons
11 solid silver blade knives
a total of 69 pieces.

All pieces are marked either sterling or 925. and all are in excellent condition. Unusual to find a full set from the 1865 period when this set was sold. Although marked only by McGrew, this pattern resembles the "Florentine" pattern by John R. Wendt, a NY maker of silver who was out of business by 1869. This service is in an associated silver chest that is also in good order. Fine quality and heavy weight.
