Elisha F. Hirst, Richmond, Indiana
A nice 5 7/8 inch teaspoon by Elisha F. Hirst, Richmond, Indiana, circa 1855-60. Hirst arrived in Richmond along with his father, also a silversmith, in 1855. Later, the business became known as Hirst & Co., and remained in business until 1881. This is the first piece by Hirst I have seen and no items by Hirst were known when my book on Indiana Silversmiths was published in 1984.
