An early American coin silver Tea Caddy, probably 1815-1825. 6 1/2 by 4/12 and standing 3 1/2 inches tall. Simple form and ball feet might suggest a Kentucky form but the piece could actually be from anywhere in the eastern US where this form is seen. Lock mechanism is intact, the interior retains its original gold wash. A few minor dents on the lid above the keyhole are mentioned for accuracy. At eleven ounces troy the box feels heavy. There is a trace of a maker's mark on the bottom that seems to read "GH" and is photographed above for whatever help that might be. This is an unusually nice piece.
