A coin silver teaspoon by Philip Syng, Jr., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Syng had a long working career lasting from about 1728 until 1785, making
him one of America's most important colonial silversmiths. This
"Hanoverian" style spoon with the slight ribbing on the top side of the
handle likely dates as early as 1765 or so. Monogrammed "MD" in block
letters on the bottom of handle, Syng's well known maker's mark
is well struck as seen in the photo. Some normal wear and some small
pitting that is barely noticeable. Length is about 4 7/8 inches.
