A Coin Silver Salver by
Wm. Garret Forbes, New York
This eight inch salver bears the early mark for
Wm. G. Forbes, along with the mark of Marquand & Co., who were the retailers
of the piece. Interesting is that the piece also bears the mark of Ball,
Tomkins & Black, successors to Marquand & Co.
This would place the manufacture of this piece in the mid to late 1830s.
The patten stands on three ornate cast feet and weighs over ten ounces.
Interesting neo-classical style and nice heavy weight at 10 ounces troy.
