Four spoons, likely by Samuel Jones of Augusta Georgia, and dated 1815.
Two of the maker's marks are completely readable, the other two have a rubbed
"S" and only the "Jones" is readable. I have always liked these provincial
makers who occasionally have reversed letters in their marks. About 5 3/4 in
length.
The
interesting mark on these spoons has a backward "N" which is quite
distinctive. The early form is consistant with the 1815 date.
Little is known about Samuel W. Jones except that he maintained a shop in
Augusta.
