A large 8 3/4 inch coin silver tablespoon by George G. Griffen, Savannah,
Georgia. This heavy spoon is in the "Olive" pattern, popular
beginning in the 1840s. Griffen was known to have worked in Savannah
circa 1840-1847. The piece is in exceptionally nice condition with a faint
monogram "BFC" engraved on the underside of the handle. Weight is over two
ounces troy.

The maker's mark as shown in the photo is the same as the mark for
Griffen illustrated in Cutten's book on Georgia silver. Also, there is a
separate mark that reads "PATENT 1846".
