A six-inch pair of sugar tongs by Emile
Profilet, who worked briefly in New Orleans before moving to Natchez,
Mississippi in 1830. He is certainly one of the most important earlier
silversmiths to work in that city. These handsome tongs have wide, bold
arms, and both are signed with his maker's mark. Interestingly, this piece
is engraved "USN" and likely was given or owned by a Naval Officer. The
engraved monogram above the "USN" is either an "H" or a conjoined "JC".
One of the best Natchez coin silver pieces that I have had.
