An impressive coin silver pitcher from the shop of Hyde & Goodrich,
New Orleans, Louisiana, and dated 1854. This stylish pitcher also bears the
"H" mark, indicating that it was actually made by Adolph Himmel, a
New Orleans silversmith known to have been producing silver items for
H&G, beginning in 1853. The engraved date of 1854 is likely the same as the
date of manufacture. Himmel was an excellent silversmith and having his
mark associated with the pitcher is certainly a plus for this piece. The
pitcher stands 9 1/4 inches tall and weighs 22.7 ounces troy,
exhibiting a floral motif done in "Repousse" surrounding a central
cartouche. A heavy and important example of New Orleans silver.
$5500.
