An interesting souvenir medal in period frame from San Francisco,
California.
A brass medal or medallion below a bust of "Liberte" in the center of two
French Flags. This ensemble was a souvenir given to customers by Roos
Brothers, which I believe was a quality men's clothing establishment in San
Francisco. The medal is dated 1789-1889, being the centennial of Bastille
Day, that began the French Revolution. Also below "the bust of "Liberte" is
the date
"14 Juillet", celebrated as Bastille Day by the French.
This "Badge" is attached to a fine period brass frame of the same period and
was likely so displayed at the time it was given. The medal itself is
somewhat larger than a quarter and the frame from top of decoration to
bottom of stubby legs is nearly eight inches. From a Cincinnati estate.
Slight chip on enamel of right flag, otherwise in quite nice condition.
