An interesting traveling inkwell from the Columbian Exposition of 1892-93.
In the form of a stack of gold coins, it bears the likeness of Christopher
Columbus and reads "CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS/ 1492 CHICAGO, U.S.A. 1892"
The bottom is stamped with "pat. appl/d for."
This is the first one of these inkwells that I have seen. The glass insert
is intact and the entire piece is in excellent condition. Height is 3 5/8
inches and diameter (about the size of a twenty dollar gold coin) is just
over 1 1/4 inches.
$85.
